Hair, from where we stand.
This is the back. Most people never see it.
Cutting, colour, treatments and bridal hair in Prospect, from two stylists who each look after one person at a time.
Tuesday to Saturday, and late on Thursday.
The salon's pendant lights the hair. Move the pointer across the photograph, drag on it, or use the arrow keys, to move the light.
Choose a colour.
Start with the colour you grow, from 1 (black) to 10 (the lightest blonde), then how far to lift it and the tone to finish with. Lightening takes the dark out first and leaves the warmth, which is why lifted brown can look orange. A tone settles it.
- Pale neutral blonde
- Golden light brown
- Medium brown
- Copper brown
- Darkest brown
Medium ash blonde.
Level 5, lifted to 7, ash tone. About three hours in the chair. Most toned colour wants a fresh tone every five or six weeks.
Your natural level
A guide: we test on a strand first.
What we do
Cut.
A dry look first, then a wash, the cut and a blow-dry. About an hour, a little longer for long hair. Most cuts want a trim every six to ten weeks.
Colour.
A strand test a few days before, then the colour itself: an hour and a half for a single colour, two to three hours for lightening. Wash it cool, and not for two days after.
Treatments.
Thirty to forty-five minutes at the basin, for softness and shine. Good on its own or folded into a cut.
Bridal.
Hair for the day, shaped to sit under your veil or scarf. The trial and the morning
We talk price at the consult, once we’ve seen your hair.
Two of us. One of you.
There are two chairs here and two of us, and each of us looks after one person at a time. Nobody sits with colour on while their stylist starts on someone else. At the start we tell you what we’re doing and roughly how long it’ll take, and the one who talks it through with you is the one who finishes your hair.
Your chair, start to finish.
A visit in the order it happens, along the one mirror you sit at. A cut on its own takes about an hour; with colour, two to three.
-

Talk.
We look at your hair dry, the way you wear it, and agree what we’re doing and how long it’ll take.
-

Colour.
Foils or a brush, section by section, and we stay with you while it develops.
-

Rinse.
At the basin, warm then cool, with a treatment if you’ve asked for one.
-

Cut.
Wet, sectioned and clipped, then cut to the shape we agreed.
-

Finish.
Dried and smoothed, then we turn you round and hold up the hand mirror, so you see the back too.
The room at the back.
There’s a room at the back with a door that closes and no window to the street. Ask for it when you book, for any appointment: the chat, the colour, the basin and the cut all happen there.
If you wear a headscarf, you can take it off in there, and we’ll hand you a mirror before you put it back on. It costs nothing extra, and you don’t need a reason.
Made to sit under a veil or a scarf.
We try the style on you six to eight weeks before the day. Bring the veil or scarf you’ll wear and a photo of the neckline, and we try it with them on, so you both know how it sits. On the morning we come to you, or you come to the room at the back: about an hour and a half for the bride, and an hour for each person getting ready with you.
Between visits.
We stay open late on Thursday, and this is what we tell people at the door on their way out.
Rinse cool.
A cooler last rinse leaves hair smoother to the touch and keeps a tone looking fresh for longer.
Dry low.
Medium heat, the nozzle pointing down the lengths. It’s slower, and it looks better.
Book the tone.
A gloss or tone between colours, every five or six weeks, keeps the colour where we left it.
Book a chair.
Tell us what you’d like and roughly when, and we’ll come back to you to find a time.
Tuesday to Saturday, and late on Thursday. The room at the back can be booked for any of it.
