Six hard courts and three glass padel courts in Kensington Park. Book a court or a trial lesson and come for a hit before you join.
Six hard courts. Three in glass.
Hard courts
Six acrylic hard courts in two rows of three, lit for the evenings. Members book ahead; visitors can book one for a hit before they join.
Glass courts
Three padel courts with glass back walls and mesh sides, turf with a little sand through it. Padel is always doubles, so bring three friends, or come on a social night and we'll find them.
The clubhouse
Change rooms, a shelf of racquets and padel bats to borrow, cold water and a kettle, and a verandah over the first three courts.
Tennis, or padel?
Padel is played on a court a little smaller than a tennis court, walled in glass at the ends. If you've held a tennis racquet, you'll have the hang of it in a game or two.
Tennis
- Singles or doubles.
- Serve overarm, from behind the baseline.
- One bounce, then it's yours to play.
Padel
- Always doubles.
- Serve underarm, after a bounce.
- Let it come off the glass and play it back.
The courts are side by side, so try both on your first visit.
From your first rally
Coaching for adults, tennis and padel, from never having held a racquet to playing a set on Saturday. Start in a group of four or on your own with a coach, and go at your own pace.
A first rally
We feed you slow, high balls to the middle and you send them back. You'll hit more balls in the first half-hour than you'd think.
Keeping it in
Longer rallies, crosscourt and deeper, with topspin so the ball dips in and kicks up.
Coming forward
A short ball, a low slice to approach, and you follow it in to the net.
Match play
Quick volleys at the net, then points, and you keep the score.
Over the net.
A net cord is the ball clipping the tape, sitting on it for a moment and dropping. Sometimes it falls your way and sometimes it doesn't, and everyone on court stops to watch. We named the club for that second.
Come for a hit.
- Serve You book a court or a trial lesson with the form at the bottom of this page. Tell us if you've never played; plenty of people start here.
- Return We write back with a time and meet you at the gate ten minutes early, show you round and find you a racquet.
- Third ball You hit with a coach for the first half-hour, then with whoever's on the next court.
- At the net If you liked it, come back for a social night. When you're ready, we'll talk about joining.
What to bring
- Flat-soled court shoes or clean runners.
- Water, and a hat if the sun's out.
- Something with sleeves on a hot day.
- A racquet if you have one. If not, take one from the shelf by the gate.
Join when you're ready.
There's no rush. Book a court or a lesson, come to a social night, and when you'd like to join we'll talk it through at the gate, fees included.
