KM · START THE SHOWROOM, LONSDALE

NEXT · 1.40 KMRoundabout, third exit. What’s on the floor this week.

CAP 184° · LEAVE THE LOT, RIGHT

Set up for the road you ride.

An adventure motorcycle standing on a gravel range road in the dry hills, the road curving away over a rise.

New and used road, adventure and café bikes in Lonsdale. The riders who work here set each one up for the person buying it, then take the test ride out toward the Fleurieu with you.

  • Out the roller door, right. The range roads start twenty minutes south.

ROUNDABOUT, 3RD EXIT

On the floor.

1.40a

The one for the range roads

ADVENTURE · NEW · 270° TWIN

The adventure bike on the gravel range road, panniers on, the road bending away behind it.

What it’s for

Days that start on tar and end on a fire track. Tall enough to see over the scrub, soft enough to sit on all day, and it carries a weekend without complaint.

What we’d change for you

  • Seat height, if your feet want more of the ground.
  • Handlebar height and lever reach, for standing on the pegs.
  • Tyres for how much of your riding is dirt.
  • Preload for you and the panniers.
  • Crash protection before the first gravel.

Where we’d take it

  1. Out the lot
  2. Left at the hills
  3. Kuitpo gravel
  4. Forest roads
  5. Home on tar

The one for Sunday in town

CAFÉ · USED · SINGLE

A café-style motorcycle on a paddock stand inside the workshop, the roller door half open to grey daylight.

What it’s for

Short rides with stops in them. Light enough to push into the gap outside the bakery, and it starts on a cold morning. Ridden, looked over and serviced before it came onto the floor.

What we’d change for you

  • Handlebar height, if the low ones fold you over.
  • Lever reach for smaller hands.
  • Gearing a tooth shorter for town.
  • Tyres that warm up quickly.
  • A small tail bag.

Where we’d take it

  1. Out the lot
  2. Down the hill
  3. The beach road
  4. The esplanade
  5. Back up the hill

The one for the long way home

ROAD · NEW · TRIPLE

A touring motorcycle with soft panniers parked at a gravel pull-out beside a damp country road in green hills.

What it’s for

Two days away with a change of clothes. The half fairing keeps the wind off your chest, and the seat is still kind after the second hour.

What we’d change for you

  • Screen height for how tall you sit.
  • Seat foam, if you ride long.
  • Preload for a passenger and luggage.
  • Rebound for the hill tar.
  • Heated grips if you leave early.

Where we’d take it

  1. Out the lot
  2. Over the ranges
  3. Toward Myponga
  4. The hill tar
  5. Coast road home

FORK, FOUR WAYS

Four engines. Hear them first.

The layout under the tank changes how a bike feels more than the number on the side. Hear the four we see most, then ride the one that sounds like you.

Single
One big pulse every two turns. Thumps, pulls from nothing, easy on a washed-out track.
Twin, 270°
Uneven on purpose. A lope at idle, grip you can feel through the rear tyre.
Triple
Even, every 240°. Pulls low down and still wants to rev.
Four
Smooth and busy, every 180°. Quiet through town, a long wind-up on the open road.

270° · 450°

Uneven on purpose. A lope at idle, grip you can feel through the rear tyre.

Sound starts only when you press Hear the engine. Stop is always on the screen. Each engine is built here from its firing order, pulse by pulse, and held well below full volume.

ROUGH ROAD !!

  • Sag measured front and rear, sitting on it, feet on the pegs.
  • Preload for your weight and luggage.
  • Rebound for your roads: gravel wants it faster than tar.
  • Handlebar height, lever reach, pedal position.
  • A second look after your first few hundred kilometres.
Gloved hands turning the preload adjuster on a fork leg with a spanner, a tape measure hooked on the axle.

Set up for you.

A bike comes from the factory set for an average rider in no gear. You aren’t one. We set the sag with you on the bike, in your gear, with what you carry.

Try it on the bike below. Set your weight, then the preload and rebound, and pick a road. Drag the drawing to roll it back and forth.

CREEK CROSSING

Gear, by what it does in the rain.

A rider’s gloved hands holding a rain-beaded helmet beside a wet motorcycle at a gravel pull-out.

We sort the rack by what the day does, not by the label.

01

Rain on the hills

A jacket that sheds water at the collar and cuffs, not just the chest. Gloves you can still feel the lever through when they’re wet. Over-gloves in the tank bag.

02

Heat on the plains

Mesh where the air gets in, armour that stays put. Lighter colours; you’ll thank us at the lights. Water on the bike.

03

Dust on the range roads

A visor that seals. Boots high enough for a rut. A neck tube you can pull up when the car ahead turns off onto the gravel.

04

Cold before seven

A layer under, not a bigger jacket. Heated grips if you ride early. Gloves a size roomier than summer, so the blood still gets to your fingers.

Try it on sitting on a bike, not standing at a mirror. Reach the handlebars, turn your head. If the collar fights you, it’s the wrong jacket.

FUEL STOP

How buying one goes.

Four stops, no rush between them. You can leave after any one of them and come back when it suits.

Used bikes. Ridden, looked over and serviced before they go on the floor. We’ll tell you what we saw.

Trade-ins. Bring yours. We’ll ride it and tell you what we see, on the day.

  1. 1

    Talk it through.

What you ride, where, and who comes with you. Height, inseam, and how far you like to go before a stop.

  2. 2

    Ride it.

On a loop that shows you what matters, with one of us riding along. Two bikes back to back if you can’t choose.

  3. 3

    We set it up.

Sag, handlebars, levers and tyres, with you on it, in your gear. The numbers go in the book with the bike.

  4. 4

    Pick it up.

Then come back after the first few hundred kilometres and we’ll look again, once the bike and you have settled in.

FINISH

The coast. Tell us your ride.

Tell us what you ride now and what you’d like to ride. We’ll have one ready and set roughly before you get here.

YOUR RIDE · WHAT YOU MARKED

Nothing marked yet. Press Mark it on a bike, a test ride or the workshop, and it lands here.

The same adventure motorcycle parked at a cliff-top gravel lookout above a long beach and a grey sea.

    WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

    1. We read it and write back with a morning or an afternoon that suits.
    2. If you told us your height and inseam, the bike is set roughly before you arrive.
    3. Bring your own helmet and jacket if you have them. We have some to lend if you don’t.

    Whichever you’d rather we used.
